Two Brawl players have been barred from competing at MLG's Dallas circuit event next weekend because of allegations of match fixing at the District of Columbia regional.
The two players are "ADHD" and Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman, considered two of the top 10 players in the nation. Mew2King was the points leader but did not win the District of Columbia title. Instead, ADHD, the best Diddy player in the nation, won.
Now comes the Dallas regional, where the national champion will be crowned, and Mew2King won't be a part of it. Neither will ADHD, whose title win at the nation's capitol had jumped him to 14th in the standings.
It's unknown officially which two players will move up to the top 16 in the standings. Tied for 17th are Gnes and Southern California's Tearbear.
Here's the statement from MLG:
Major League Gaming was recently made aware of allegations of match fixing on the part of Pro Super Smash Bros. Brawl players Mew2King and ADHD at the recent MLG D.C. Pro Circuit Competition. The Official MLG Rules clearly state that no players may engage in “intentional Forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate Rankings or Brackets,” with one of the possible penalties for such a violation being a competition ban.
Following an official investigation of the above allegations by the MLG Conduct Committee, both players have been banned from competing at MLG Dallas. Further penalties and sanctions may be imposed at a later date.
UPDATE: A couple hours ago, ADHD posted a statement on Smashboards saying he should not be barred from MLG Dallas. Link to the post:
THE RULES CLEARLY STATE THAT: "No players may engage in 'intentional Forfeiting or conspiring to manipulate Rankings or Brackets,' with one of the possible penalties for such a violation being a competition ban."
Yet no such rule was broken by either me, or mew2king.
While I did offer to give him 300 dollars as a token as friendship because he had previously split with me when I was 2nd/3rd numerous tournaments in the past, it was not an intentional forfeit, rofl.
When I entered the ring (or stage if you must), Jason informed me that he was not playing well and he did not care of the result of the match. I said: "Alright, fine, let's just play it out."
So we did, and afterwards he asked me if I could split with him. I responded by saying "I'll give you 200-300 dollars, is that alright? I don't want a full split." Jason nodded and confirmed this was acceptable in agreement.
If the MLG staff prefers to respond with such a major punishment based on nothing but a silly game of telephone and rumors, so be it.
BUT PLEASE, DO NOT RELINQUISH WHAT I FULLY EARNED AT MLG DC. DO NOT TAKE AWAY THE 2,500, THAT'S ALL I ASK OF YOU. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
Also, if the 300 dollars is the reason why we are both being banned, I do not have the money at the moment. I can easily keep it all, as I'm sure Jason would still be content and agree with this decision.
SECOND UPDATE: vVv Gaming announced that it has released Mew2King from its roster. The announcement came hours after MLG released information about its barring of the two players.
