MvC2 video specialist Striderzer0 has video footage of the $24,000 money match that took place at The Salty Suite at Evolution 2010. Sanford Kelly took on the 4-member West Coast team of Chris Schmidt, Neo, Fanatiq and Chunksta.

It was a 19-game series (first to 10), and per the rules, each member of the West Coast team had to play twice. It wasn't pretty early on, and that's all I'll say about how it went, you'll have to see the rest on Striderzer0's YouTube to find out the ending.

Phil Frazier addresses Strategy Pad, other parts of Madden 11
Written by Glenn
Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:00

Madden 11 senior producer Phil Frazier was on The Madden Voice radio show yesterday and addressed what seems to be the major concern among Madden player this year: the strategy pad.

Frazier told players to not be concerned about the changes in controls. Yes, it is like learning a new system after so many years of having the same style. However, the goal is to make the game more efficient for all players.

It seemed as though there were certain features over the past couple of years that were catered heavily toward the tournament players. But while the tournament players are the hardest of hardcore, they are the minority. And as Frazier mentioned during the radio show, the novice and players would get stuck.

"We've watched people with the game (past Maddens), and we've experienced  the fact that you can get locked in that menu and run into a situation where you can't get out," Frazier said. "You do a line move, but you can't snap the ball because you're still in the line menu.

"There was so much functionality built into the pre-play adjustments, a lot of that was for the tournament crowd. There's a lot of people upset because they have to re-learn the system. All the functionality is still there, nothing has changed."

What some tournament players have mentioned -- and I agree with -- is that quick snapping will be exploited. Those on defense that don't learn the system right away or have trouble will get quick snapped on by their opponent and will have to adjust as the play is going on, which usually spells doom.

The CPU opponent does quick-snap, and Frazier said he'll be looking into that today. A change could possibly come before the Aug. 10 release, or possibly later on as part of a patch or game update.

Another part of Strategy Pad is that NCAA 11 does not offer it; that game still has the "traditional" system, so many players that play both games will have to learn two different systems.

Frazier said it's a valid argument, but not really noteworthy becuase a small population -- he said the percentage is in "single digits" -- own and play both games.

Frazier talks about how and why they picked Gus Johnson. He referred to the Brandon Stokley tipped touchdown catch last season that was a tipping point.

"This guy can deliver," Frazier said.

He mentioned Gus Johnson doing thousands of hours of audio voiceovers that will be in the game this year.

There's plenty more in this interview, and Commissioner T offers listener questions from the crowd, so be sure to listen to the whole show.

Video highlights of the AllisFighter Summer Beatdown Super Street Fighter IV tournament

The AllisFighter Summer Beatdown 2010 tournament series kicked off earlier this week, and Saturday was the Xbox 360 Super Street Fighter IV tournament, won by Anton.

Anton defeated Peabo in a 5-game series to win the title. He saved the replays of the match, and you can view some of them on his own YouTube portal; Game 1 is posted above.

I'll have stats of this match once the remainder of the videos are posted. The first three games of the match are available.

Here's one stat; in Round 3-3, it took 35 seconds for Peapo to get the first hit. By comparison, about 20.5 percent of rounds are done in 35 seconds or less, and with Peabo's tournament life on the line, he barely got the match going by getting the first hit after 35 seconds. By then, they had accumulated a combined 3 EX meters.

The Summer Beatdown tournament series continues today, head to AllisFighter for more or follow them on Twitter.

Preview of WCG Ultimate Gamer 2
Written by Glenn

World Cyber Games' Ultimate Gamer 2 will air Aug. 19 on Syfy. If you were a fan of the show last year, then get ready for another season. I saw the game list and can't wait to see what is done to make Mario Kart Wii a prominent game. Will they hurl actual turtle shells painted green while driving a kart?

While the roster wasn't announced, there will be 12 competitors.

In the trailer, there are at least two Southern California players prominent in the community: Justin Wong and Faye aka Princess Aura. Call out if you see some more.

But yeah, about that Mario Kart Wii, what about dodging bananas while driving an Impreza 60 mph?

This latest video of Cross Counter isn't about a match breakdown. Instead, Gootecks and Mike Ross talk about their history in competitive games and where they've come from. This was shot after Evolution, where Mike Ross finished in fourth place, losing only to international players. He talks about one of his early goals, which is really cool.
