Get Your Tournament - Multimedia

A week ago, I wrote about comparing team stats between Mike Ross and ShadyK. What happens a week later? They meet in the finals of The Box Arena's Fight Tournament, a singles competition. One caveat: ShadyK went Ryu and not Akuma (which I'm not surprised, being that Evolution is a week away).

The tournament went to a second finals, won by Mike Ross. The stats for the first final and second final are in the stats section. If you want to see it, it's in the video above (it starts at 1:22:04).

A few stats stand out and they relate to Mike Ross. His EX connection rate was a swell .825 (33-for-40) and he won everytime he got the first combo, 7-for-7.

Perhaps the most impressive stat of the night: he never blew a late lead, going 12-for-12. That's the most for a finals that I've seen in a long time. Combining that with the previous two weeks, and Mike has converted his last 16 late leads in finals matches.

The Uryo vs Makoto match in the Godsgarden Online Tournament on Saturday morning was a great match. If someone wanted to see competitive Super Street Fighter IV for the first time, I might consider this to be the first match that I show them.

Makoto won the 19-game series, 10-6.

The video of the match is above. Stats from the match are here.

I think the match turned Makoto's way when he nailed an EX flip kick to win Game 14 and take an 8-6 lead. Had Makoto gotten hit by the burning kick, Uryo wins the game, and this match probably finishes closer than what it was, maybe differently

This was probably the stat of the match: Out of the 16 games played, 13 went to a third round. Uryo won 7 of the Round 3s played, Makoto won 6.

Three games went only two rounds, and they were all won by Makoto.

And out of all of that, the pace of the match was 11 seconds faster than your normal Super Street Fighter IV tournament match. They were averaging 37.11 seconds a round. I have the tournament average at 48.5 prior to adding this to my database (and now it's at 47.6 seconds).

Makoto was well ahead of the curve in most categories. He had an insane .714 first-hit win percentage (15-for-21) and a .685 EX connection percentage (50-for-73).

Daigo Umehara prevailed over Momochi, 10-3 in the Godsgarden Online Tournament, and here's the video of the match, provided by Team Spooky.

There's also have the stats from the match, available in the stats section. What's most surprising is that, although Daigo won convincingly, the average time was well past 50 seconds (54.79).

With the exception of one game -- the 12th where time ran out twice -- it never seemed like the pace was slow. Maybe it's that world warp we viewers are sucked into everytime this Daigo person starts playing. I think one of his buttons controls time.

Daigo also had an .857 first-hit win percentage.

Other matches are available on the Team Spooky YouTube portal.

Havok and MikeHAZE

Kelly was one of the main photographers at MLG Columbus, and she took some great pictures of the various tournaments, including Tekken 6 and Brawl. Earlier this week, she and the league came up with five of her favorites, as well as five from fellow photographer Linds.

One of my favorites out of Kelly's five was the group photo of the Brawl tournament, featuring new vVv Gaming members Havok and Mike Haze. It seems like they're being consoled by another Brawl player (I'm almost sure it's Tyrant).

When I captured this photograph, it was actually between matches. Although I knew it could be taken out of context, I took the opportunity and snapped the shot anyway. It's one of those moments where you can see the player’s exhaustion and know the stress they are putting themselves through, and you can’t help but wonder what thoughts are running through their head.

Go here for the full set.

Earlier today, Mochi battled Mago in an exciting Godsgarden Online Tournament match. It was a 19-game series (first to 10) and it went the distance.

I wrote about the significance of this title match earlier this month. I said it in the commentary, the matchup did not have any standout moments, but it was who was in the title match that made it significant.

Striderzer0 has posted the video of this match, the Team Family Fun Arcade United Ranbats 1.2 championship between Hugo101 and Futile.

Futile, using Abel, was representing the winners bracket. Hugo101, using Dictator/Bison, needed to win two 3-game series to claim the title. Videos of the title match are below.

You can see more of this tourney and a lot more on Striderzer0's YouTube portal.

This is awesome. The folks at Screw Attack have footage of Mortal Kombat 9, taken during the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Most of the video shows the fatalities in the game. Scorpion's is one of the best (I'm being a little bit biased, he's my favorite character from the series). I'm sure after people see the Milleena fatality, they'll pick her just to do it.

Video from Screw Attack.
