Wolfkrone and Dieminion played twice during the 12th Toronto Fighting Game Championships last night. In my database, I had three previous encounters featuring the two guys, and all have been late in a tournament. So I decided to do a quick comparison of the before-and-Sunday.Three tournaments before Sunday:
First-hit wins: Wolfkrone .556, Dieminion .400
First-combo wins: Wolfkrone .762, Dieminion .714
Combo rate: Wolfkrone 1.306, Dieminion 1.194
Closeout rate: Wolfkrone .882, Dieminion .684
Their two matches Sunday:
First-hit wins: Wolfkrone .769, Dieminion .615
First-combo wins: Wolfkrone .583, Dieminion .417
Combo rate: Wolfkrone 1.958, Dieminion 1.333
Closeout rate: Wolfkrone .889, Dieminion .600
The spread in closeout rate is very alarming, and I brought it up before they met the first time yesterday because I thought it would be something to look at when the match unfolded. Turns out, that was the case. When these guys have a lead late in a round (they send their opponent to 25 percent health first), the results have been night and day.
Here's all five matches combined:
Wolfkrone: 25 times with a late lead, 23 wins (.920 average)
Dieminion: 34 times with a late lead, 22 wins (.647 average)
The average for any match in any tournament is .826.
If Dieminion was at the average in those five matches against Wolfkrone, he would have 6 more wins, which could mean 3 games, which could mean a match victory. It's amazing what Wolfkrone has been able to do given the situation in-game.
