Ryan "Filipino Champ" Ramirez won the Super Street Fighter IV tournament at Southern California Regionals on Sunday in Los Angeles, beating Daigo Umehara, 3-2 in the second finals match.

Filipino Champ lost the first finals, 3-1 before taking it home. He was the only player in the tournament to beat Daigo; his first win came during the semifinals.

Stats of both finals matches can be found in the stats section.

Combined both finals matches, and Daigo actually won more rounds, 12-10. They also won the same amount of rounds in the second finals -- six each. Daigo was more aggressive, posting a .750 first-hit win percentage and .571 first-comb win percentage; Filipino Champ was at .471 and .333 in both categories, respectively.

Filipino Champ had a slightly better winning percentage in closeout games. Filipino Champ's winning percentage when on game point was .571, Daigo was only at .500.

Here's the remainder of the final eight standings.

Anakin, also known as ATL Hoa, won Major League Gaming's national championship in Tekken 6 earlier today, beating Orlando regional champion Kor 6-2 in the Race to 6 finals.

Stats of the match can be found in the stats section.

Anakin won the first encounter, 3-0, which took place in the first semifinals. They met up again, and Anakin won the first two games before giving up two and then closing it out.

He lost on his first two championship points and didn't get another shot at it for about 10 minutes, with Kor making a slight run to close the gap.

For winning, Anakin won $12,500 and several other prizes, including a two-player arcade cabinet of Tekken 6, and a trip to Japan to visit Namco Studios.

In the continuation set, Anakin won seven rounds in a row before losing two straight to Kor. Despite that, Anakin had a chance to close it out right there, but did not. In his seven-round win streak, his juggle combo rate was 1.286 compared to Kor, who was only at .429.

Kor had two rage wins, and Anakin had one; each posted a rage win that earned them a game victory.

NYC Fab took third, and Korea's Knee finished fourth.

Individual stats of the final match of the Battle of the Bay tournament are now available in the stats section.

Go here to check it out. Unlike past stats, these ones include defense, which played a critical role in Team Southern California beating Team North Bay, 5-2.

Some quick hits:

  • Keno, who I like to rib for being the best player that takes forever to win a round, had an average time of 85.6 seconds. But somehow he was outdone! Hoodaman took all of his rounds to the gun for a 99.0 average.
  • Gootecks was 11-for-13 in EX connections (.846). He held his two opponents to 1-for-11 (.091).
  • Two of North Bay's five guys accounted for all of the rounds won by that team. It was three each for Doug and R.J.

Team Southern California won the Battle of the Bay on Sunday, winning the five-person team tournament with an undefeated record. They beat Team North Bay in the finals, 5-2. After falling behind 2-0, Southern California didn't lose a game and only dropped two rounds in total.

A lot of the stats were even, but when it came down to connecting on the EX meters, Southern California did it more often, .431 to .233.

Here's the stats of the final match between the two teams:

Your eyes and my eyes might bleed at what seems to be an overusage of Meta Knight at national events, especially when it gets to the final eight. At MLG Raleigh this past weekend, five of the top eight players used Meta Knight.

Add in a few more tournaments, and Meta Knight usage isn't that overwhelming.

Foxy, a member of Smashboards, has put together a fairly comprehensive spreadsheet showing character usage at the four biggest national tournaments this year; the three MLG events and Apex 2010.

Go here to see it. There's plenty to click through, but two things caught my eye:
  • At the three MLG events and Apex 2010, 15 of the 41 players in the final eight have used characters that resided in the S tier, that's barely a .365 average. Take out Raleigh, and Meta Knight usage was at .333.
  • However, in the four major events, 30 of the 41 characters used by players in the final eight have all come from the S or A tiers.
