Get Your Tournament - Live Coverage

Last night's Starbase Arcade 2-on-2 tournament featured a duo both using Claw that reached the title match. Unfortunately for Mario and El Cuban Loco, they couldn't finish the deal, losing to Hoodaman and Grimmz.

Stats of the title match are posted in the stats section.

Most of the stats were even; both teams had connected on five EX moves, and their first-combo wins were close, 3-2 in favor of Grimmz and Hoodaman.

Where it separated was combo rate. Hoodaman and Grimmz combined for a 2.286 combo rate per round, while El Cuban Loco and Mario were barely at 1.429 per round. The leader out of the four players was Grimmz, who was at 2.333 per round.

Hoodaman and Grimmz also each won when on game point. Mario never saw a game point, and El Cuban Loco was 1 for 2.

I'd like to see these four guys go at it in an extended series, just to see whether it remains close. It probably would.

It's nice to wake up during the morning and watch a Nagoya Street Battle match featuring a character matchup only seen in the nether regions of YouTube. OK, Sakura vs Zangief isn't that far out there in terms of thinking, but it was nice to see it nonetheless. Uryo tried his best to do something with Sakura, then said fuck it after trailing 3-1 to Zangitan.

Zangitan eventually prevailed, 5-1, and he is now 1-1 in the tournament series, which will determine who goes to Switzerland to represent Nagoya Street Battle.

Stats of the match are posted in the stats section.

One stat you won't see there is something new I'm tracking, combo rate, the average amount of combos per round. I didn't think of it until this morning, when I was watching the previous NSB qualifier, and the two players were warming up. I thought combos were misleading but it turns out the player that had the most combos won every round except one, and this stat has held up a few times already with a couple other matches.

Zangitan had a combo rate of 2.733 per round, Uryo was at 2.333.

It gets a little bit more interesting from here. In the four games where Uryo used Sakura against Zangitan, both players had the same combo rate: 2.900 per round. And yet, Zangitan held a 3-1 lead. Obviously, in the rounds where Uryo won, he racked up a ton of combos against Zangitan, and that was evident in every round played.

In the two games Uryo used C. Viper, his combo rate dropped to 1.200 per round. Zangitan was double, going 2.400.

Also, Zangitan was 5 for 5 when on game point. We'll see what happens with his tournament future as the competition continues next week.

Sanford Kelly won the King of the Stream tournament a few days ago, beating I Young HOV in the title match, 3-1. I posted the stats of the title match in the stats section. It's easy to see based on the stats and the video that Santhrax settled down and got rolling after the first round of the match.

It should be noted too that Santhrax did more with his initial advantages than I Young HOV did. Santhrax won three times when he got the first hit or combo. I Young HOV only one once by comparison, this despite getting four first-hits and six first-combos.

Both guys weren't the greatest when doing damage with EX. Santhrax was 12 for 19 in doing damage, while I Young HOV was 9 for 16.

Go here for the stats of the title match.

Jimmy "Mr. Naps" Tran defeated Reepal "Rip" Parbhoo in the finals of the Tekken 6 tournament at NorCal Regionals 8 this past weekend. Video of the championship match was recorded by the guys at iPLAYWINNER, and you can check it out after the jump.

I captured the stats of the match, and they're available in the stats section. Of note is the juggle combo rate, which wasn't even close. Mr. Naps had a lot of other stats that went his way, and when you watch the video you'll see why.

The field is stacked with veterans, which is like saying the sun came up today. However, ST Playah makes his second appearance in the Top 8 in the NorCal Regionals series. His friends told me this is his second tournament ever, which makes his run even more amazing.

As you'll see in the videos in the coming days, Daigo Umehara and Blue Tall Cans played an intense battle in the winners bracket. Daigo's Guile had some connections I never thought were possible.

Winners Bracket
Daigo Umehara (3-0) vs Campbell "Buktooth" Tran (3-0)
Alex Valle (3-0) vs DGV (3-0)

Losers Bracket
ST Playah (3-1) vs David Sirlin (3-1)
Blue Tall Cans (4-1) vs Mongolo Robocop (4-1)

Renzo and Jadey each lost their first match of the tournament and then won out to get to the Top 8. One person doing it is crazy, but to have two do it is insane.

Reepal "Rip" Parbhoo (3-0) vs Derek "Kane" Lee (3-0)

canada_cupThe final eight players in the Canada Cup 2010 were determined earlier tonight. The tournament resumes Sunday afternoon with the final eight players battling it out for Canadian supremacy. The specific matches weren't announced, but the players were:

Winners bracket
Daigo Umehara
JS Master
Mago
Mike Ross

Losers bracket
Air
Gootecks
Jozhear
Justin Wong

There were a few feature matches that took place late in the broadcast, and I posted the stats of them on the stats section.

JS Master vs Justin Wong: This was amazing. JS Master never let Justin breathe, winning in a sweep. Justin was first to 50 percent health and 25 percent health all four times during the match.

Air vs Mike Ross: Air beat up Mike Ross in the opening round of the matchup and I figured this was going to be a rough outing for Mike (and if you read my commentary earlier in the week, you know why). But Mike came back strong, winning three rounds in a row and establishing initial contact in all three of those rounds.

Gootecks vs Mago: It looked like Gootecks had Mago wrapped up in the second game but missed an opportunity to do it. Instead, Mago survived it and extended the match, which he eventually won. In the third game, Gootecks did not get an EX connection, while Mago got five. no comments

Bokkin took out Fatbear earlier today in the finals of the latest Pacific Northwest tilt, the Best Bout Slugfest VII. Bokkin won, 3-1 to win the tournament undefeated. After losing the first game with Dudley, he switched to Cammy and poured out three straight victories.

Stats of the match can be found in the stats section.

Of note, Bokkin was 3-for-4 in rounds where he was on game point. Fatbear was 1-for-3. Both players were fairly high in EX connections (14 for Bokkin, 10 for Fatbear), and they both closeout every round in which one had a late lead.

More from this tournament can be found at the Team Khaos Gaming site.
