Get Your Tournament - Interviews

LOS ANGELES - ComboJack was one of the guys that played in Saturday's Super Street Fighter IV tournament at UGTL 6 and used a new character -- Guy. What made it sweeter was that when he lost a game, he did not switch back to Sagat. He stuck with Guy and got all the way to the title match, where he eventually lost to Combofiend.
After the tournament was over, I talked to ComboJack for a few minutes about playing Guy in the tournament. You can listen to it below. Apologies for the bad audio and background noise.

TORRANCE - At the LA Buttonmashers event , I had a chance to talk to UGTL lead guy Bmarq about the upcoming UGTL 6 tournament, which is taking place this weekend at the Rec Center Studio in Echo Park.
As with all of the UGTL events, there's more than just the tournament taking place, and Bmarq talks about that in this podcast. You can listen to it below.

SANTA ANA - Tatsu, the most prolific Claw/Vega user in Southern California, got a chance to play the Super Street Fighter IV version of the character prior to the game's release. After Sunday's 2-on-2 tournament at Alex Arcade, I had a chance to get inside his brain about the character, what changes were made, and the character matchups that will now take place. We also touch on a couple other characters in Super Street Fighter IV.

He's broke through recently in a couple major events, finishing in the top eight for both NorCal StrongStyle 4, as well as West Coast Warzone 2.
During West Coast Warzone 2, I talked to him for a few minutes about his mindset going into this weekend, how he's preparing, and some of the rules that are different than tournament play.

no commentsUPLAND - Sonny Nhoung finished third at the latest James Games tournament this past weekend. He used Zangief during his run, taking out the novices and then holding his own against the two players that finished ahead of him: Keno and Tatsu.
In this latest Players Choice podcast, I ask Sonny about his use of Zangief and what he does in tournament play. Also, will he be using the character in Super Street Fighter IV?

LONG BEACH - I had known that ComboJack was using one hand while playing Street Fighter IV. But what seemed like one or two times turned into several sessions.
So, I decided to ask him about it. Why does he do it and can some things be done easier?
I should say that this is not new to me; during the Melee days, I had seen ChuDat use one hand to play against others. Obviously there's a big difference between a whole fight stick and a GameCube controller.
This is less structured than the other Players Choice podcasts that I've had, and we won't get into any deep specific things about a character. But if you've ever thought about messing around in competitive play, Jack gives some insights.

no commentsLONG BEACH - MYK won the West Coast Warzone 2 Tekken 6 tournament on Sunday with an undefeated record, hold on in the title match to defeat Kane.
It wasn't the same as before in local Ranbats tournaments, where the two guys met up in the finals and Kane tripped up MYK. This weekend, MYK sent Kane to the losers bracket and then ousted him in the title match.
In this interview, MYK talks about the rematch and the run through the tournament. You can listen to it below.

This was an interview I did a few weeks ago at Family Fun Arcade. Jeremy aka Vicious won the FFA Ranbats 1.3 tournament, and after the event he talked to me about using Rufus in tournament play.
It's a brief podcast so enjoy. You can listen to it below.
