I really hope there’s another Sunroute Cup in the future. This was a great 3-day tournament. Even though I only went for the final day, the word I got from other people that had attended was that the other two days were a very cool scene.
Sunday was the capper, with talent coming from various parts of the nation. Marn and Justin Wong turned out to be the final two standing, with Justin claiming the title in a very fast manner.
Hopefully you’ll get a chance in the next couple of days to check out some of the footage from the tournament. Meanwhile, onto the recap:
Title match result
Justin Wong 3, Marn 0
Match stats
First-hit win percentage: Overall 42.8 percent, Justin Wong 75.0 percent, Marn 0 percent.
Rounds won: Justin Wong 6, Marn 1
Lead changes: 0
Average time: 36.2 seconds
The title match was over when...
… Justin blocked a Marn thunder knuckle and countered with a standing fierce to win the second round of Game 2. Had he gotten hit, the match would have been 1-1, and things might have been different. Instead, Justin didn’t lose another round the rest of the way.
Player of the tournament
Amir. He went 4-2 and finished in the top five, beating Ken I to get there. His strength of schedule was .667. Out of the top five, only Marn had a higher strength of schedule (.692).
Other notes:
Is there a Justin effect? He played six different opponents. There were four of them that, after they lost to Justin, immediately lost their next match. Also, it was great to see Zangief give us some good analysis of his match, of which he lost to Sherry Jenix’s C. Viper.
