Hi, my name is Glenn and I lead Get Your Tournament. Not only do I like long walks on beaches, oranges and the San Francisco Giants, I love going to tournaments and watching all the action. I hope you enjoy all the interviews and updates. Go here if you want to ask a question about this site or life in general.
Tonight's the night to get some ranking points in the AllisFighter ladder system. Matches start at 5 p.m. PT and will go for three hours so be sure to get in some action and move up the ladder.
All is Fighter's Rankings Ladder is a great complement to your favorite fighting game's in-game ranking system. Instead of leaving your fate up to random match assignments, take advantage of our rankings ladder to find quality opponents ready to play right now. Based on Microsoft's TrueSkill system (the same rankings that power most Xbox Live games!), our ladder combines an advanced ranking system (where you earn points for defeating other players) with the best Street Fighter matchmaking service anywhere -- our interactive chat room! Sign up for our singles ladder, join the chat, and start challenging others to get your rank up. It's an easy, fun, and accurate way to show the world what you're made of!
Here are the top three standings going into tonight:
If you're into competitive StarCraft or wanting to find out about the StarCraft 2 beta, the people at 1up are running a live stream right now as they play the game. Check it out below.
A scan of Famitsu magazine shows Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto coming to Super Street Fighter IV. So if you had them in your office pool, you win. Of course, Dudley had been teased for the past couple of days.
This is our weekly contest here on the main Get Your Tournament site. It's fairly simple: caption the following picture in this entry and be entered into a drawing for a MadCatz TE keychain.
I'll set it up for you, and you go from there. You'll have until Friday to post a response. I'll pick the two best responses. Keep it clean.
As always is tradition in tournaments, the question of "Can I see the bracket?" comes up hundreds of times. Here, some of the competitors take a look at one of the four brackets at NorCal StrongStyle 4 a couple weeks ago. Thus this picture ...
What are they talking about? The two best captions win a MadCatz TE keychain!
This should be a great Players Choice podcast, and I hope you enjoy it. Yesterday I received the opportunity to interview Keno about his experience playing Super Street Fighter IV. Keno had the chance to play the game last week at USC, and tried out a lot of the new characters, as well as some of the old characters.
In this podcast – it's almost 10 minutes – he'll tell you what character is still strong, what character will be dropped by a lot of people, and which new characters are standouts. Also, will the tournament scene degenerate to just a few characters, or will it be varied? Finally, Keno tells you the one thing tournament players must do to have a shot of winning a competition.
Not sure if it's open to all players, but I'll throw it out here because it seems to work out timewise. The Consoles Sports League, based in Europe, is hosting a Street Fighter IV online tournament for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Signups start now and will last until Feb. 21. The tournament for both consoles start Feb. 25. Matches are set to take place at 7 p.m. CET, which would be 10 a.m. PT on the same day.
GRANADA HILLS - It was one of those tournaments where I had an idea how things were going to go, but once it started I really didn't know how it was going to go. The format for the LA Riots III qualifying tournament had been drawn out and explained a few times prior to Monday night, but I really wanted to see how it was going to play out.
It turned out alright. As I mentioned in the pre-game show, I thought only five players were going to get out to the bracket round, all with one loss. I was one person over. From there, the final eight competitors took part in some really good matches. Justin Wong and Mike Ross captured the two qualifying spots for the LA Riots III tournament.
There will be one more qualifying tournament, and I'm being told it's going to be much harder than Monday night's tournament. It will likely be the same format, but the players that enter should expect to run a much tougher gauntlet.
As for Monday night, it was entertaining. Let's get to the recap.
Title match result Justin Wong 2, Mike Ross 0
Match breakdown Rounds won: Justin Wong 4, Mike Ross 0 First-hit win percentage: Overall 75.0 percent, Justin Wong 100.0 percent (3/3), Mike Ross 0.0 percent (0/1) Lead changes: 0
The title match was over when ... ... Justin Wong won a slow-paced opening round. That was the trend in the remaining four rounds.
Player of the tournament It'll be two guys: Hugo101 and OnlineTony213. They were the only two players out of 19 that won both "gatekeeper" contests.
Other notes Justin went 4-0 in the tournament, but the only time he swept a match (plus-4) was in the finals against Mike. And oh my goodness, I hope you all get to see the video where somehow Justin busts out an ultra a split second after Mike does a torpedo, from close range. This wasn't an across-the-screen move; it was almost point blank.
Also, I looked at Keno's run during the gatekeeper round. He lost to OnlineTony213 then Hugo101. After that, Keno played six more matches, swept them all 2-0 and got a perfect round ratio of plus-24! That is insane.
Mike and Keno went a combined 32-6.
After the tournament, I caught up with Mike to talk about qualifying for LA Riots III, and his final match against Justin.
GRANADA HILLS - We are live from the LA Riots III qualifying tournament. We'll be doing a chat and pre-game show talk from now until 2 p.m.
Come join us on the chat here.
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone that joined the chat. We're going to be updating this page with a scoreboard of the four gatekeepers. If you need a refresher on how the competition will go, click here. To see the updated scores, refresh this page.
