Machinima has posted video of the tournament it hosted a few days ago at South's in Santa Monica. Almost every big name was in this tournament, so if you're wondering who will likely stand out in the Madden 11 scene, check out the video.
How Ryan Hart did not throw his headset, his fight stick, the monitor or random spectator during the ECL Super Street Fighter IV finals amazes me. And the video producer had to have the same feeling. The camera switched to Hart and Starnab about 30 times during the finals (when there was no need to after the third time, even if their breathing pattern changed from "I'm in a tournament match" to "I get steak if I win").
Hart was up 2-0, up a round, and got the first hit on game point against Starnab. It took him 20 more minutes after that moment to win the tournament. The first of three parts is posted above.
How did Hart not go crazy, when he had the biggest advantage around and couldn't finish it out at that moment. He lost four consecutive game points, had to play 18 more rounds. And yet, his expression did not change.
Hart and Starnab had to be encased in an invisible glass box, like those Starcraft pros, right? That's how he held his composure. Or, perhaps he kept playing close to what he did.

Almost all of those averages are at or above what I have as the tournament standard. The one difference is the EX connection percentage after his big lead. Those talking heads on sports shows like to talk about players continuing to play the way they do. Hart did that for the most part. The three comebacks helped big time; two of his three comebacks came in Game 2 of the second final, where he was down 1-0.
This is Get Your Tournament's official statistical tournament tier list for Super Street Fighter IV. I have a database of more than 5,000 rounds of competitive play, and that is what this tier list is based off of.
I've wanted to do a tier list like this for a few months, and now here it is. Almost all of the matches that have affected this list are based off of tournaments. The exceptions have been exhibitions such as Level|Up's 19-game series (not a tournament), and The Salty Runback (a money match).
My primary question out of this was ... based on competitive play, what would a tournament tier list look like? This is not without precedent. When Brawl was released, someone charted character usage of the top eight players in tournaments throughout the nation. A point total was awarded, and a tournament tier list was formed. Meta Knight was tops, with Snake close second. When the SBR tier list came out, it nearly mirrored the tournament tier list.
1. The factors involved are win percentage, usage percentage and win rate with more than 50 percent health remaining. If you have a tournament match, let me know. I want to add as many tournament matches as possible, of all characters.
2. The ONLY opinion I have in this is the weighted factors. I value wins and strength of wins over usage. If 50 out of 100 players use Ryu and they all go 1-2, then I consider the .333 win percentage a little more important than the .500 Ryu usage.
3. There's a wide range of matches that have counted toward this. Among the events have been broadcasts from Striderzer0 (SoCal), Team Spooky (East Coast), iPlayWinner (NorCal), and the Pacific Northwest, and several international tournaments. I don't cherrypick matches. When I see a tournament, I chart as many matches as possible from it. So if a tournament happens to have a lot of Sakuras, it just happens and I chart it.
4. This is NOT meant to replace any current or future tier list made by anyone else.
5. This list, as of Aug. 13, 2010, is based off of 6,445 rounds. The list will be updated at 7,000 rounds in my database, and every 1,000 rounds after that. This will always evolve with more matches. And I'll always keep adding matches to my database. So maybe we'll see things change. But who knows?
Finally, just because one character is listed ahead of another doesn't mean it's a done deal. As every tier list user warns, this is only meant to be a suggestion as you play competitively.
Madden stats czar Donny Moore announced Tuesday morning if Brett Favre does not play and is taken out of Madden 11, the Vikings' team rating goes from 88 to 85.
Brett Favre has a 92 overall rating but with 60 speed. Compare that to his replacement, Tavaris Jackson, who has a 71 overall rating but with 83 speed and 85 agility. If speed is key this year, then will players miss Favre that much?
UPDATE: Moore said Favre was taken out of the game's database.
I thought Minnesota was going to be a sleeper team this year, as it was the past two years. They won't be a killer team like Dallas and New Orleans are expected to be, but they'll be pests. Yeah, Adrian Peterson fumbles a little more than he should, but he's still a great running back and that's key to this team.
Regarding Favre, I think this video might actually come true, which tells you my thoughts on whether he'll retire before the season starts.
Longtime tournament player Shopmaster is broadcasting Madden 11 right now. If you want to see some of the features of the game before the game is released next week, be sure to check it out on the stream and send suggestions in the chat.
The power of Katzuhiro Harada's Twitter portal has struck again. Earlier this morning, the producer of the Tekken series said both games in the Street Fighter x Tekken series will have different character rosters.
So it appears that, other than the style of play, there will be another incentive to buy both titles. Event Hubs reported last week both Namco and Capcom are treating the series as a competition of sorts as they build both games.
The people at Round1.sg have videos of Singapore's Super Battle Opera qualifying tournament for Street Fighter IV. You can check out all of the matches above in the playlist. I won't spoil it, but if you want to know who is representing that country in SBO later this year, check out the story on Round1.sg's page.
Keep in mind that this is Street Fighter IV, because Super Battle Opera uses arcade games. Stateside, the U.S. qualifying tournament for Street Fighter IV will be next weekend in San Mateo.
Ricky Ortiz, about a month removed from his second-place finish at the Evolution 2010 Super Street Fighter IV tournament, won the Shadowbrooke Games tournament on Sunday evening.
Ortiz and Wu were two of the eight players that reached Championship Sunday at Evolution; they did not meet up then. They met in the winners bracket, with Ricky Ortiz winning (thanks to langdon for correcting me on the error).
Ortiz had an EX connection percentage of .696, and won all five times in which he got the first combo.
The Godsgarden Online Tournament is now over. With that, I've put together an extensive statistical database of all seven matches and the eight players that particiated in the tournament.
There's a lot that is covered here, and you'll be able to compare players based on what they did throughout the tournament. You'll get to see a lot of why some players did well and why some players did not.
There's still a lot to be put into this database, so it is far from complete. However, be sure to check it out and let me know your thoughts.
In case you're wondering, this is not the extensive player database that I mentioned the other day; that's coming in a few days, and will have more awesomeness to it.
